But I'm not tired!

So, what parent doesn't know this story?
Joel rarely takes naps anymore. He does get cranky during the day, but if he naps, he's up ALL night. So, I put up with crankiness most of the time in order to have a quieter evening.
But today was one of those days he really needed a nap. I tried to talk him into going up to bed by himself, but no, he wasn't tired. I decided not to fight him, it was only 4 more hours till bed time. I could make it. Dinner usually perks him up enough to make it through to bedtime. So, I left the room for a few minutes, came back and you can see up there what I found.
This is in the living room with the NASCAR race on the tv, and 4 other kids right there doing various nooise making activities. Nope, he wasn't tired one bit.

Joel's "blankie" is actually an old slip. It's a long story how it started, but there you have it.

Yes!!! the slip. I see he hasn't gotten rid of that habit yet. That's OK. Liz still has her blankie...and is 11. Hopefully by the time he gets married he'll give it up.

that's really funny. my SIL mary's little brother apparently was attached to one of his mom's 'nighties'. she kept trying to get him to choose something else so she would hide it in the back of the drawer. but he would go dig it out and drag it around. she eventually gave up and let him have it, but she cut the top off so it was just a big tube of silky fabric - no lace or straps. haha. i hope he'll be able to give it up before he gets married! i can't imagine his wife will find it too cute!

That's how it started. He got into my mom's undie drawer and no matter what, would keep going back. We finally settled on the slip, a little better than a pair of panties. We tried creating blankies of our own, but the material we could find was never quite right. My mom stitched up an old slip once into a more blanket looking thing, but it got lost and at this point, I just give up. He knows he can't have it in public.
